A very large and old Poplar Tree that has graced the front yard at St. John the Divine Church in Copper Cliff for many years was beginning to show signs of disease. Over the past few years large branches had broken off and, since the tree is very close to the sidewalk, fears of injury to pedestrians from falling branches was growing. The City of Greater Sudbury was contacted since the tree was actually on City property and the decision was made to cut the tree down. This task was accomplished on June 9 and the accompanying picuters show the before and after view of the front yard. Members of the congregation will miss the tree but support the city's decision to remove it for the safety of pedestrians.
